The VCT APAC Stage 2 Group Stage kicked off on June 15 and ended on June 20. Sixteen teams across the Asia Pacific (APAC) fight for their spot in the upcoming VCT 2022 APAC Stage 2 Playoffs.

Group Stage Format

The VCT APAC Stage 2 Group Stage features 16 teams (12 high-seeded and 4 Play-In teams). These teams are divided into four groups and will compete in a double-elimination bracket where each match is a best of three.

Group A Recap

The very first series of the VCT APAC Stage 2 Group Stage was between Gaimin Gladiators and Griffin Esports. Gaimin Gladiators went on top as they beat Griffin Esports 2-0. The next match of Group A is ONIC Esports vs Made in Thailand, where the Indonesian powerhouse ONIC Esports defeated the Thailanders 2-0. In the Winner’s match, ONIC again looked unstoppable as they defeated Gaimin Gladiators 2-0. The elimination match will feature Made in Thailand and Griffin Esports. Griffin Esports would show what they’re made of by winning 2-0, with almost a flawless game number 2. The decider match will be a rematch between Gaimin Gladiators and Griffin Esports. This time, Griffin Esports will take the series 2-0. As a result, both Made in Thailand and Gaimin Gladiators were eliminated from contention.

Group B Recap

Group B starts with Alter Ego vs. Global Esports. Indonesia’s Alter Ego took the series 2-0, leaving Global Esports to fight for their contention in the elimination. Afterward, Xerxia took a commanding victory of 2-0 versus Rex Regum Qeon (RRQ). Game 1 of the Winner’s Match between Xerxia and Alter Ego might’ve been the best set of the group stage. The set would reach 30 games before Xerxia closed it out. Game 2 would be a one-sided victory for Xerxia. Group B’s elimination match would feature a fantastic set between Rex Regum Qeon and Global Esports. Game 1 was an easy victory for RRQ. However, Global Esports would push them to their limit in game 2. After 28 games, Global Esports would take the victory to even the series 1-1. RRQ will take game three and is set to play for the decider. Alter Ego would beat RRQ in three games for the decider. As a result, both RRQ and Global Esports were eliminated from contention.

Group C Recap

The first match of Group C was between Oasis Gaming and Order. Order would take the series with an almost perfect game number 2. Afterward, Paper Rex defeated Boom Esports 2-0. In the winner’s match, the Singaporeans (Paper Rex) again showed their fine skill as they defeated Order in 2 games. Boom Esports and Oasis Gaming will face each other in the elimination. Boom Esports score a commanding 2-0 victory over Oasis Gaming. Next, for the decider, Boom Esports took game 1. Like what they showcased versus Oasis, Order would have an almost perfect victory in game number 2. Afterward, Boom Esports showed they have what it takes to be in the Playoffs as they would beat Order in game number 3. As a result, both Oasis Gaming and Order were eliminated from the VCT 2022 APAC Stage 2 Challengers.

Group D Recap

Group D kicked off with FW Esports vs. Fancy United Esports (FU). FU Esports advanced in the winner’s match as they pulled off a victory in the third game. In the following match, fan favorites Team Secret faced off against the Singaporean juggernaut, Bleed Esports. Team Secret will not be able to close out a close game two as they will get sent to the elimination. Bleed Esports advanced to the winner’s match. The winner’s match is between Bleed Esports and Fancy United Esports. The Singaporeans once again proved their tenacity (2-0) as they will send Vietnam’s FU Esports in the decider match. Meanwhile, in elimination, Team Secret would beat FW Esports 2-0. Then, in the decider match, Team Secret again would prove why they once dominated the APAC scene as they will end FU Esport’s contention. As a result, FW Esports and FU Esports were eliminated from the VCT 2022 APAC Stage 2 Challengers.

The Playoffs

With the conclusion of the VCT APAC Stage 2 Challengers Group Stage, the APAC region’s road to the Copenhagen Masters continues. The qualifying teams will compete for the $30,000 winner’s prize and a shot at the Copenhagen Masters. The top two teams of the playoffs will qualify for the Masters.
