The VCT 2022 APAC Stage 2 Challengers kicked off last weekend with the 2022 APAC Stage 2 Play-Ins stage. The 2022 APAC Stage 2 Play-Ins are a part of the VCT Stage 2 Challengers regional qualifiers. The top teams from each regional qualifier will earn their slot for the VCT Stage 2 Masters in Copenhagen, Denmark. The 2022 APAC Stage 2 play-ins took place from June 9 to June 12, featuring eight teams from South East Asia and South Asia. These teams were divided into two groups with four teams each who played in a double-elimination format. The top two teams from each group will make their way to the group stage.

Group A Recap

The top 2 seeds of each group will advance from the 2022 APAC Stage 2 Play-Ins to the group stage. There, they will face the top-seeded teams from the other regions. Made in Thailand and BOOM Esports are the top teams in Group A. After losing game number 1 to Cerberus Esports, BOOM Esports composed themselves and rallied to a 13-5 win in game two and a 13-9 victory in game 3. On the other hand, Made in Thailand defeated Enigma Gaming in three very close games. 13-11 on game 1, 13-9 on game 2, and a classic 14-12 on game 3. These matches could have gone either way, but with Made in Thailand’s experience and composure, they were able to secure the series. Made in Thailand beat BOOM Esports in 3 games in the winner’s match. Afterwards, Cerberus Esports defeated Enigma Gaming in three games for the elimination. Lastly, BOOM Esports defeated Cerberus Esports in 2 games for the decider. As a result, both Enigma Gaming and Cerberus Esports were eliminated from contention.

Group B Recap

Meanwhile, In Group B, Bleed Esports and Rex Regum Qeon qualified for the Group Stage. Bleed Esports took over Ghetto Artist 2-1. Leonel “lenne” Lim showcased an excellent Sova during the third game of this series. Afterwards, Rex Regum Qeon won a commanding victory over Team Big BAAM 2-0. For the winner’s match, Bleed Esports and Rex Regum Qeon fought a close series that went to three games. Bleed Esports eventually came out on top and took the victory. Next, Ghetto Artist defeated Team Big BAAM in the elimination 2-0. Finally, Rex Regum Qeon had a masterful performance against Ghetto Artist in the deciding match. As a result, both Ghetto Artist and Team Big BAAM were eliminated.

Conclusion

The top four teams in the Play-Ins have earned their shot at the VCT 2022 APAC Stage 2 Challengers Group Stage. In the group stage, they will face off against 12 of the best teams from the Asia-Pacific region. These teams will battle for one of two spots to compete in VCT Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen.
