VALORANT patch 1.05 is finally out, heralding the start of Ignition: Act 2. In addition to another rank season starting, VALORANT patch 1.05 also introduces a new battle pass, agent, and game mode. The new agent is none other than the German genius Killjoy, VALORANT’s newest sentinel that uses robots. Secondly, Free-For-All Deathmatch’s beta will be coming out in this patch. Keep reading this article to find out all the changes in VALORANT patch 1.05.

Agent Updates

Killjoy

Killjoy joins VALORANT’s roster as the game’s 12th agent. She is officially VALORANT’s third sentinel class agent after Sage and Cypher. The German genius is an expert on robotics, deploying various robots that disrupt enemies and lock down areas. Players can now activate her contract to unlock her and her associated rewards. Raze

  • Showstopper equip time increased from 1.1 to 1.4
  • Showstopper quick equip time increased from 0.5 to 0.7
  • VFX reduced when firing rocket
  • VFX on rocket’s trail slightly reduced
  • Black Pack damage decreased from 75 to 50
  • Blast Pack now consistently does 600 damage to objects

Raze is the only agent receiving balance changes this patch. She was recently nerfed in the last patch, but Riot Games felt like trimming some more power off her. Once again, her Showstopper ultimate was targeted. Riot increased the equip time for Raze’s Showstopper to give enemies more time to prepare against it. Furthermore, they reduced the rocket’s firing VFX so enemies can more easily see Raze as she fires. This gives enemies more time to shoot Raze down when she’s looking to make explosive plays.

Next, Riot Games decreased the damage of Raze’s Blast Packs. The Blast Packs were originally intended to be used for mobility and breaking down objects. However, players were also using its high damage to finish off enemies. Now, Blast Pack is less effective at killing enemies while being better at clearing away their utilities and other objects.

Competitive Mode

VALORANT patch 1.05 signals the start of the game’s next competitive season. The following are the changes Riot Games implemented to competitive mode:

  • Riot Games added Act Ranks to the game
  • Players who earned a rank during Act 1 need to play 3 more games to show their rank in Act 2. New players have to play 5 initial placement matches to calibrate their rank. Player performance will have a larger impact on their early ranking. This means players can quickly gain ranks if they perform well and win.
  • Competitive matchmaking now will have a higher chance to match solo and solo/duo players against similarly sized premade groups at the cost of queue times being slightly longer
  • Riot Games modified rank indicators on a loss to provide more granularity into how a player’s rank is changed. Players now receive up to three arrows on a loss. The number of arrows determines how their rating has been decreased
  • Match History now shows the rank you went into the match with for that game, versus the rank you ended the game with
  • Players can view their friends’ career tab via the context menu in the social panel. This means players can now see their friends’ rank, act rank, and match history
  • Custom Game leaders can now select their target game pod location and see players ping for that game pod

Riot Games introduced plenty of changes to competitive mode in this patch. In addition to the game displaying a player’s current rank, Act Ranks showcase the highs of a player’s ranked journey. Act Ranks display the highest point in a player’s ranked career and gives them a special border that evolves as they win more games. Additionally, the custom game changes improve the quality of custom lobbies for tournament play.

Game Modes

VALORANT patch 1.05 introduces Free-For-All Deathmatch’s beta. This game mode gives player a random agent and unlimited credits to purchase any gun they want. Free-For-All Deathmatch disables the use of abilities to focus on gun play. The following are the game mode’s rules:

  • 10 player free-for-all
  • First to 30 kills with a time limit of 6 minutes
  • You’ll load in as a random agent you own
  • Buy whatever weapons you want; heavy armor is given automatically
  • Killing enemies drops health kits. Picking one up fully restores your health/armor AND automatically reloads your weapon, as a result
  • All enemies are periodically revealed on the minimap

Riot Games will continue to evaluate Deathmatch’s game performance and stability. Because of this, Riot Games will limit its availability to specific windows upon the deployment of patch 1.05. The first window starts on Wednesday, August 5.

That wraps up the changes introduced in VALORANT patch 1.05. Overall, there weren’t many agent changes and no gun changes introduced in VALORANT’s latest patch. However, this patch brought in plenty of new content for players to enjoy the game.
