VALORANT patch 1.04 released today with four agents and a weapon receiving adjustments. The four agents receiving changes this patch are Viper, Raze, Brimstone, and Cypher. Among the agents, Viper received massive buffs. Moreover, the Classic pistol is the only weapon receiving changes this patch.

Agents

Viper

Viper’s Pit

  • Viper can stay now outside of her ult for up to 15 seconds
  • Viper can hold the ability key to drop her ult early
  • Enemies in Viper’s Pit have their minimap obscured and do not provide minimap detection to their allies
  • Increased the brightness of the red enemy glow at the edge of Viper’s near-sight

Decay

  • Enemy decay per second increased from 10 to 15 from all sources
  • Enemy will continue to decay for 2.5 after exiting Viper’s smoke

Fuel

  • Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen don’t consume additional fuel beyond the cost of having one active if both are active

Viper receives massive buffs in VALORANT patch 1.04. She can now stay outside her ultimate, Viper’s Pit, for longer periods of time. Furthermore, enemies entering Viper’s Pit will have a harder time pinpointing her location through their minimaps. As a result, Viper has more opportunities to play mind games on her opponents with her ultimate.

Next, Viper’s decay mechanic is also getting buffed. In particular, enemies will receive more decay damage from Viper’s abilities. Furthermore, enemies will continue to decay for a short period of time after leaving Viper’s Pit, Poison Cloud, and Toxic Screen. These changes will make pushing past Viper’s poisons more risky as a result.

The last buff Viper receives in VALORANT patch 1.04 affects her fuel consumption. Viper’s ability to control an area is limited by her fuel gauge. Previously, Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen cost 10 fuel per second each, for a total of 20 fuel per second, to keep up. Now, Viper only consumes 10 fuel per second to keep both Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen active. As a result, Viper can now control areas for longer.

Overall, Viper’s buffs reinforce her strengths as a controller.

Raze

Showstopper

  • Cost changed from 6 to 7 ult points

Raze has been a popular duelist since VALORANT’s beta because of her ability set. In addition to the utility they provide, all of her abilities can deal damage and help Raze secure kills. Her ultimate, Showstopper, is a powerful killing tool. When used properly, it can easily get Raze multiple kills. As a result, it was deemed too powerful. Increasing Showstopper’s cost reduces the frequency that Raze nets almost sure kills.

Brimstone

Orbital Strike

  • Cost changed from 6 to 7 ult points

Stim Beacon

  • No longer buffs enemies
  • No longer shows its area of effect to enemies

Brimstone is another popular agent in VALORANT that’s been a staple in competitive play. All of his abilities give his team plenty of utility. His ultimate, Orbital Strike, is a versatile ability because of its long range and large area of effect. In addition to taking out enemies that are cooped up in a corner, it’s also a powerful area denial tool. The massive utility it provides warranted its cost getting increased by one point.

Brimstone’s Stim Beacon received a buff to contrast Orbital Strike’s nerf. Stim Beacon no longer buffing enemies helps Brimstone maintain the upper hand in closer range. Another buff it received was that enemies no longer see its area of effect. This helps Brimstone out by no longer giving away his location.

Cypher

Cyber Cage

  • Can now be picked up during the buy phase

Cypher is the final agent receiving changes in VALORANT patch 1.04. His changes are minor compared to the changes Viper, Raze, and Brimstone received. However, picking up your Cyber Cages during the buy phase is a nice quality of life change for setting up your cages when on defense.

That wraps up the agent changes for VALORANT patch 1.04. Now let’s move on to the weapon changes introduced in the patch.

Weapons

Classic

  • Fixed a bug where running inaccuracy on the right click was higher than intended
  • Fixed a bug where where jumping had no inaccuracy penalty
  • Running spread changed from 3.4 to 2.1
  • Jumping spread changed from 1.9 to 2.3
  • Walking spread changed from 1.9 to 1.95
  • Added a 10% bonus to accuracy when crouching and stationary

The Classic is the only weapon that received changes this patch. The changes should make the Classic behave more consistently. The Classic’s running burst fire should be more accurate and the jumping burst fire more inaccurate. Finally, the Classic is more accurate when firing while crouching or stationary.

That wraps up the changes in VALORANT patch 1.04. It will be interesting to see how the meta changes especially with the changes Viper received this patch. Brimstone’s and Raze’s nerfs should make other agent compositions more viable too. However, they should still be top picks because of how much utility they offer their teams.
