VALORANT: How to Play Sage

by | Oct 14, 2022 | Guides - Valorant

Any player who plays VALORANT shouldn’t feel like they are only a support character because of the game’s wide roster of sentinel agents.

Even Sage, who was supposed to be the main support/healing agent, offers a team more utility and benefit than just healing. The “Battle Sage” can be a destructive force powered by sustainability and map control in certain ranks and with an aggressive playstyle. Sage is a great option nonetheless if you’re at ease playing the standard support role.

Sage is a Sentinel Agent that is great at mending her group and managing the surroundings around them on the map. Her Resurrection ultimate can revive a deceased teammate, while her Healing Orb can keep her and her teammates healthy. She also possesses a delaying field that can slow down anyone moving through it to a crawl and a wall that can block off entire entrances and portions of the map.

Here’s how you make the best out of Sage.

Is Sage the right agent for you?

Strengths:

  • Can provide you and your team a good position with her wall
  • Can revive a fallen teammate
  • Has the best healing ability in the game

Weaknesess:

  • Her kit only revolves around being defensive
  • Ressurection has a loud noise that can alert nearby enemies

Sage Abilities

Barrier Orb

EQUIP a barrier orb. FIRE places a wall that fortifies after a few seconds. ALT FIRE rotates the targeter.

Slow Orb

EQUIP a slowing orb. FIRE to throw a slowing orb forward that detonates upon landing, creating a lingering field that slows players caught inside of it.

Healing Orb

EQUIP a healing orb. FIRE with your crosshairs over a damaged ally to activate a heal-over-time on them. ALT FIRE while Sage is damaged to activate a self heal-over-time.

ULTIMATE – Resurrection

EQUIP a resurrection ability. FIRE with your crosshairs placed over a dead ally to begin resurrecting them. After a brief channel, the ally will be brought back to life with full health.

The Road to A Sage Main

Barrier Orb is one of the best utilities in the Game

Your initial line of defense can be the Barrier Orb if your team is pushing a site and you can’t afford to worry about a flank. To reach your team, a flanker would have to shoot through the ice, revealing their location and shattering the surprise.

The ability might also be used to restrict a lane and sightlines. This can be tossed out at the beginning of the round to block the route of the opposing team and stop snipers from trying to kill your teammates. It can be used to eliminate angles during an execute on the attack side. A well-timed Barrier Orb can also buy you some breathing room if things start to get hairy so you can heal, revive, or direct your team’s withdrawal.

Heal ‘Em

The more self-centered players can engage in aggressive play, take cover, and recover before returning to the fray. However, playing defensively makes Sage’s equipment more effective. Sage performs better from the backline, zoning out flankers with Barriers or Slow Orbs and healing allies when they are down.

When several players are hurt during a firefight, the Healing Orb is very helpful. A Sage can give you an immediate benefit by healing an ally. And if you’re the last person standing, battle, run away, heal, then fight once more.

Resurrection Can Turn The Tides of Battle

Sage’s life is now worth more than most of her allies because this is a strong instrument. When your ultimate ability is active, it’s critical to remain secure on the backline because losing it would be a waste. Sage can quickly convert a one-vs-one match into a two-vs-one match to guarantee victory if players need to win a round.

Although the throwing distance is limited, this skill can undoubtedly offer your squad a player advantage right away. To essentially resuscitate an ally, players must be standing on top of them. But to keep the balance of the game, such need is vital for such a potentially overwhelming ability.

But when you go to cast your Resurrection, you should be very conscious of your surroundings. Bringing an ally back to a risky area where they were killed by accident could result in another fatality, thereby wasting your ultimate. Furthermore, the Resurrection takes a long time to complete, giving a hidden enemy the opportunity to kill Sage as soon as she casts it and the restored friend before they could mount an attack.

Best & Worst Maps for Sage

Because of her abilities, Sage can easily be played on any map. However, Pearl might be a complex map for Sage because of its complex design and intricate stairs.

Best

  • Ascent
  • Bind

Worst

  • Breeze
  • Pearl

And that should be it. If you want to learn more about other agents as well, check our Agent Guide List
