VALORANT: How to Play Killjoy

Killjoy, the German genius, is one of the more difficult Sentinels to master because her skills require a careful placement to be effective. Here is a summary of how to play this complex Agent.

One of Valorant’s most distinctive Agents, Killjoy concentrates on deployable technology rather than on-the-spot skills that are useful in gunfights. She’s incredibly strong once you’ve secured a site, and thanks to her Ultimate, she can be even more potent during the retake.

She is a well-rounded character that blends well into the game’s overall flow, despite several of her powers initially appearing to be somewhat overpowered. Here’s a thorough look at the Sentinel so you can use her collection of brilliant inventions to annihilate the opposing squad.

Is Killjoy the Right Agent For You?


  • Killjoy naturally shines on defense and in post-plant scenarios since she can set up her turret and other gadgets to dominate areas of the map.
  • On offense, her Turret is incredibly useful for protecting her team from enemy lurkers and rotators.


  • There is no CC other than the ult detonation and turret slowing like with any other bullet.
  • No ability to enter (maybe she could throw her onto a spot before her team entered?
  • Gadgets can be wrecked
  • Setup is necessary, and she probably won’t be able to use her skills very effectively in skirmishes or firefights.

Killjoy Abilities


EQUIP a Nanoswarm grenade. FIRE to throw the grenade. Upon landing, the Nanoswarm goes covert. ACTIVATE the Nanoswarm to deploy a damaging swarm of nanobots.


EQUIP a covert Alarmbot. FIRE to deploy a bot that hunts down enemies that get in range. After reaching its target, the bot explodes and applies Vulnerable to enemies in the area. HOLD EQUIP to recall a deployed bot.


EQUIP a Turret. FIRE to deploy a turret that automatically fires at enemies in a 180-degree cone. HOLD EQUIP to recall the deployed turret.

ULTIMATE – Lockdown

EQUIP the Lockdown device. FIRE to deploy the device. After a long windup, the device Detains all enemies caught in the radius. Enemies can destroy the device.

The Road to A Killjoy Main

Gadget’s Placement

With an Alarmbot, Turret, and two Nanoswarm grenades at her disposal, Killjoy is well-prepared. Killjoy can successfully secure a bomb site by herself with her gadgets, unlike Haven with the three bomb sites. However, it would be advantageous to have some backup if the opposition team charges the area.

Her ability to strategically position her gadgets is critical to a successful defensive stand. When an enemy agent enters the area, Killjoy’s Turret can detect them instantly and warn your team of their existence while simultaneously unleashing suppression fire. Depending on the map and location you guard, her Alarmbot is very helpful in preventing potential flanks (the same as her Turret). Although Killjoy can move her Turret and Alarmbot to a different location, each of those abilities has a 20-second cooldown.

If utilized appropriately, the Nanoswarm can be a lethal tool. The offensive teams often place the spike in a consistent location each time. Her Nanoswarm grenades can deliver significant damage rapidly and move the spike carrier to a less desirable plant area because she knows where the adversary will plant the bomb.

Killjoy can defend a very sizable portion of the map if on Haven. She can position her Alarmbot at the end of the long hallway leading to C to protect the far side push while positioning her Turret inside the garage next to C to cover the mid-push. Killjoy can do the same on the opposing side at A site by positioning her Alarmbot inside B site and her Turret on top of A site. Killjoy can disperse herself while still being highly powerful thanks to the large radius of her utility items.

Using Lockdown To Its Full Potential

Killjoy’s ultimate Lockdown is a powerful offensive and defensive tool. Killjoy deploys a gadget that, when turned on, emits a 30-meter-wide dome-like orb. After 13.5 seconds, if an adversary is still inside the sphere, they are immobile and slowed for eight seconds.

Lockdown can be used to rush upon a bomb location if the German agent is engaged in an offensive activity. Since the enemy doesn’t want to be trapped inside the sphere, they will probably back off until the ultimate is through, letting Killjoy and her team swiftly get to the plant site. Similar to how Lockdown can potentially move the opposing team’s spike away on defense, giving Killjoy and her team a chance to defuse the bomb.

The main drawback to Lockdown is that if the adversary knows the device is at the sphere’s center, they might try to push toward it to disable it before the 13.5 seconds are up.

Some foes, such as Brimstone or Sova, have their own ultimates that can be destroyed with Orbital Strike and Hunter’s Fury. Moving around corners should be done with caution because it can reveal Killjoy’s location or reveal foes who are waiting for an opportunity to attack.

Best & Worst Maps for Killjoy

Killjoy isn’t your typical 1v5 agent, but if you use her properly, you can win the majority of fights. As you are forcing the enemy to play into terrain they are likely not in control of, forcing them to hold off on pushing or rotating offers your team time to rotate or flank the enemy if necessary.
