Valorant Episode 7 Act 1 features a brand new agent, Deadlock. Her abilities are a game-changer that will compel her opponents to alter their attacking and defending strategies.
Deadlock, a Norwegian sentinel agent, introduces a unique variation and a novel mechanic that will have a significant impact on the Valorant meta.
Agent 23 of Valorant can concuss, ensnare, block, and eradicate foes with her lethal nanowire trap.
To equip a GravNet grenade, press the Ability 1 (C) button. Fire (left-click) to cast the spell. Use alt discharge (right-click) to underhand throw the grenade.
The GravNet will detonate upon impact, immobilizing all foes within its radius.
To equip Sonic Sensor, press the Ability 2 key (Q). Use (left-click) to activate this ability.
The sensor monitors an area for audible threats. If it detects footsteps, weapon fire, or substantial noises, it concusses the area.
Select the ability To equip a Barrier Mesh disc, press (E) 3 times. Fire (left-click) to cast the spell.
The disc, upon landing, generates obstructions from its origin point that impede character movement. Barrier Mesh will also prevent the use of agent abilities, such as Gekko’s Wingman.
To equip Nanowire Accelerator, press the Ultimate (X) key. Fire (left-click) to release a discharge of nanowires that ensnares the first foe it encounters.
The encased target will be dragged along a designated nanowire path, and if they are not rescued before reaching the end of this path, they will succumb. It takes a number of bullets to eliminate the nanowire cocoon, which is destructive.
According to Valorant Game Designer Alexander Mistakidis, they wanted to create an agent that can hold their ground actively with their utility, as opposed to needing to set up their utility in advance.
“Our hope is that this appeals to players that value being able to adjust their plays and strategy based on information about their opponents,” said Alexander.
Deadlock was specifically designed for tactical players who excel at responding to situations that are already in motion.
“There was an improvisational nature to it all, of someone that is honed in their craft and knows what tool to use depending on what comes at them,” said Valorant Agent Lead John Goscicki. “This resonated with tropes of someone surviving against extreme and otherworldly odds, getting out alive with just what they were able to work with.”
“Deadlock is bringing her skills and tools to the game, and it’s up to you to use them correctly to stall every enemy push,” he added.
Valorant Episode 7 Act 1 also features a new gun skin pack, the Neo Frontier skin. This skin pack will transform Valorant into a wild-west combat in which traditional Western duels are given a futuristic twist.
The Neon Frontier is distinguished by its dynamic theme, distinctive ending, and custom inspect animation. In addition, it has a gun companion that displays the image of the best fragger.
This collection will include Sheriff, Marshal, Phantom, Odin, and melee (axe) costumes.
The Riot Games producer Laura Baltazer stated that they wished to pay homage to iconic spaghetti and space westerns.
“Normally, animations for a skinline would only be available in the final upgrade levels,” Baltzer explained. We altered this skin because we felt it was crucial that the animations and audio were consistent between the old-school and futuristic variations.
The animations and aural enhancements of The Neon Frontier were implemented at various upgrade levels to ensure a consistent experience throughout the skin line.
“We began with period-appropriate sounds that included natural reverberation and echoes that conveyed the genre’s environmental nuances,” said Valorant Sound Designer Drew Olsen. “As the theme develops, we’ve added more traditional sci-fi sounds to accentuate the visual elements while retaining the old west feel’s core charm.”
Baltezer also explained that the one-of-a-kind gun companion updates the player icon on the wanted poster to the top thief, and turns crimson “if that’s you.”
All skins will have purple, white/blue, and orange/blue variants that apply to the special wanted finisher.
