The VCT APAC Stage 2 PlayOffs kicked off on June 23 and ended on June 26. Eight teams who came out in the VCT Asia Pacific (APAC) Group Stage will fight for their spot in the upcoming Copenhagen Masters.

Playoffs Bracket Format

Eight teams will be competing in a double-elimination format in the Playoffs. Matches will be played in a best-of-three series except for the Grand Final. The Grand Final will be a best-of-five series.

Paper Rex’s Domination

Paper Rex has been one of the most dominant APAC Teams, and this tournament proved no different. After sending Alter Ego into the Lower Bracket, they faced their co-Singaporean team Bleed Esports. Paper Rex would find themselves on the ropes as Bleed Esports would score a commanding game 1. Paper Rex would then answer a dominating victory on game 2. Then in game 3, they will close out the series after an outstanding performance from Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto. In the Upper Bracket final, they will face the Filipino juggernaut Team Secret. Team Secret has been one of the SEA favorites, although that wouldn’t be enough for Paper Rex. Team Secret wouldn’t be able to answer on f0rsakeN’s monstrous Yoru. Paper Rex would advance to the Grand Final of VCT 2022 APAC Playoffs.

XERXIA’s Amazing Lower Bracket Run

XERXIA got sent into the lower bracket, the SEA favorites Team Secret. Here, their first opponent was Indonesia’s BOOM Esports. Their game 1 was total domination from BOOM Esports, with XERXIA only scoring 2-round points. Then, facing elimination, XERXIA would find their rhythm in game 2. They would follow it with a masterful performance in game 3. In the lower bracket round 2, they will find themselves against one of the best teams in the APAC region, Bleed Esports. Bleed Esports will take game 1, and XERXIA will retaliate by taking game 2. In game 3, from rounds 21-23, Bleed Esports was in the lead, and XERXIA was in the blink of elimination. XERXIA managed to hold their composure to avoid getting eliminated, and in round 23, XERXIA’s Natchaphon “sScary” Matarat and Panyawat “sushiboys” Subsiriroj is on the ropes facing Bleed Esports 5 players. With their shot at the Masters on the line, with the perfect coordination between the two, they manage to take the round with sScary getting a quadra kill. They even the series and would take the game to overtime. They would beat Bleed Esports 14-12. Afterward, they faced ONIC Esports. They advanced to the lower bracket finals and sent ONIC Esports home by beating them 2-0. The Lower Bracket Finals will be a rematch between XERXIA and Team Secret, as it was Team Secret who sent them to the Lower Bracket. Team Secret managed to take the upper hand as they took the first game 13-3. Once again, facing elimination, XERXIA would handle Team Secret their ticket home, as they will take games 2 and 3 and advance to the Grand Finals of VCT 2022 APAC Playoffs. Being the 3rd place, Team Secret will take home $12,500.

The Grand Finals

The Grand Finals of the VCT 2022 APAC Playoffs Grand Final is between Paper Rex and XERXIA. While XERXIA’s Lower Bracket run is impressive and all, they have yet to face the real challenge, Paper Rex. Game 1 was a bit close, with 13-8 in favor of Paper Rex. However, in games 2 and 3, you can see Paper Rex’s discipline and experience. They were able to close the series in three games. Paper Rex’s f0rsakeN was just too much for XERXIA to handle. Paper Rex will take home $30,000, and XERXIA will take home $20,000. Both of these teams will have their shot at the upcoming Copenhagen Masters.

This wraps up the Valorant Challengers Tour VCT 2022 APAC Stage 2 Challengers Playoffs Recap. What do you think about Paper Rex and XERXIA? Do they have what it takes to battle it against the other region’s powerhouse? What is your favorite team coming into the Copenhagen Masters?
