Valorant Patch 5.0 brings some significant changes to the game, with a new map Pearl, the departure of Split, bug fixes, and a new competitive rank, “Ascendant.”

New Map, Split Removed

The new patch will introduce a new map called Pearl, an Atlantis-inspired underwater map with vibrant visuals set in Portugal. Fans can enjoy the new map with a Pearl-only queue, an unrated mode where players can learn the map without the pressures of a competitive match.

Split will also get removed from the unrated and competitive queue. Split’s removal is temporary, though Riot did not give a return date.

A New Rank “Ascendant”

Valorant Patch 5.0 also introduces a new rank above Diamond and below Immortal will make its way to the patch. This rank will be called Ascendant. Riot Games believes that many players in the Bronze and Silver rank do not deserve to be there. Moving up players would cause Platinum and Diamond ranks to become overpopulated. The developers decide to add a new rank to distribute the players fairly while maintaining the stature of higher ranks.

MMR targets that determine ranks below Ascendant will be lowered, while the ranked target for Immortal One, Two, Three, and Radiant has been moved up. Players below Ascendant can expect to move up due to the changes, but Immortal players and up will find it harder to reach their previous rank. Due to the seasonal reset, players might not see a rank increase at the start of the patch, but the reset will be “less harsh” compared to the last patch reset.

The grouping restrictions for Ascendant are three ranks above or below, and the highest placement is now Ascendant One instead of Diamond One. The five-stack 25 percent RR penalty now starts at Immortal One instead of Diamond Three, and the solo and duo five-stack restriction also begins at Immortal One.

Due to a naming clash with the new rank, Riot renamed Sage’s tier 8 Agent Contract unlock—the new Sage title is “Dauntless.”

Bug Fixes

Valorant Patch 5.0 also featured some bug fixes.

Maps

Fixed a bug on Haven that was preventing players from using their spray on a wall in A Garden.

Agents

  • Fixed a bug where Jett could equip a weapon during Tailwind.
  • Fixed a bug where Agents revealed by Sova’s Recon Bolt or Fade’s Haunt would sometimes briefly appear in an incorrect location on the minimap.
  • Fixed a bug where the scope visual effect would sometimes disappear when aiming with Chamber’s Tour De Force.

Game Systems

  • Fixed a bug where using an Ultimate point orb or defusing the Spike at maximum range could cause channeling and progress bar animations to flicker.
  • Fixed a bug where the use channeling progression bar does not update if the player disconnects and reconnects during the match.
  • Fixed a bug where some weapon equips could play the wrong equip speed animation, which could visually misrepresent when you were able to fire.

This wraps the article for Valorant Patch 5.0. There were no buffed or nerfed agents in this patch, but it did bring lots of new features to the game: Pearl, a new map, removal of Split, a new rank, and bug fixes. The patch will also include the newest Prelude to Chaos skin set.

So what do you think about the upcoming Valorant Patch? Is the new rank “Ascendant” a necessary addition? Tell us in the comment.
