As a result of users utilizing cryptocurrency to wager on the outcome of the games, several professional Valorant players and streamers have complained of colleagues throwing top-tier ranked matches.

Fans have long placed bets on the results of matches involving professional esports players or well-known streams. Due to high-level League of Legends win trading, EsportsBet.io had to stop accepting solo queue wagers in October. However, this latest wave of cryptocurrency betting in Valorant is said to have reached a new height.

Players might gamble on a pro or streamer to win while purposefully losing their own team if they are on the same team, or they could notice that they are on the opposing team and bet on them to win.

Some of the biggest names in pro Valorant, like Yassine ‘Subroza’ Taoufik and Tarik ‘tarik’ Celik, have spoken about the problem online.

Up-and-coming talent uses the ladder to stand out, while pros at the highest levels utilize it to practice with other pros outside of scrims and to create content for their fans.

The present status of throwing in competitive games, according to Sentinels player Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, is “crazy.”

Pujan “FNS” Mehta of NRG also discussed the issue, but he suggested a strategy for players to discourage cryptocurrency gamblers.

More pros and novices might decide to forgo solo queues and compete in private matches if the suspected crypto-betting on the ranking ladder persists.

Every player in the game is invited to these private matches so that no one with crypto on the line may be allocated to the match and sway the result. However, this will reduce the number of players in the ranking queue, increasing wait times for unevenly matched games and matches.

The gameplay for everyone else and the viewing experience for streamers are ruined by these randomly rated individuals who aren’t professional players and are instead just trying to make a quick crypto buck.

The answer to this problem’s solution is still up in the air. If there is significant opposition from some major names, these crypto-betting sites might give in, but that seems doubtful. Most likely, Riot will have to intervene and take measures, much as it did in 2020 over Chinese gambling websites and throwers that affected professional League players.

Riot Games has not yet responded to the controversy.

Can Riot Games stop this or crypto-betting will become a trend for other esports games?
