The League of Legends Pacific Championship Series has recently announced the PCS Promotion Qualifier. The PCS Promotion Qualifier is an opportunity for non-PCS teams to replace the summer season’s bottom two teams. Because Liyab Esports and Resurgence were the bottom two teams during the summer season, their slots are up for grabs. In this case, the PCS Promotion Qualifier is open for teams from the Philippines, and Singapore and Malaysia region. The following are the details and requirements of the PCS Promotion Qualifier.

Qualifier Registration Information

The qualifier is open to teams within the same server region as the current 9th and 10th place teams of the PCS summer split. The Philippines, and Singapore and Malaysia regions will host qualifiers because Liyab Esports and Resurgence were the 9th and 10th place teams.

Interested teams from the two qualifier regions can register starting from August 3 until 23:59 of August 6, 2020. GMT +8. The registration form for the qualifier can be found here on the official PCS website. Teams must meet the following requirements to be eligible for registration:

  • Players must be at least 17 years of age by August 2, 2020.
  • Three (3) out of five (5) registered players in a given team must be residents with legal proof of residency within the PCS region. The PCS will request this at a later date and this doesn’t need to be provided during initial registration.
  • Each player must provide their Garena ID, Garena UID, and Summoner Name.
  • The location of the server that the team is registering and competing for (PH or SGMY or TH)
  • All players must be ranked Diamond 1 or higher (any server)
  • Three (3) out of five (5) players must be ranked Diamond 1 on the server they have registered to compete in

The official PCS website also provides the official rules of the qualifier.

Teams that register successfully will be notified via a confirmation email. If registered teams haven’t received a confirmation email yet, the PCS team will try to contact them as soon as possible.

Qualifier Evaluation Information

The PCS team will evaluate registered teams based on their team’s combined MMR in ranked solo/duo queue. The evaluation period lasts from August 3, 2020 until 23:59 of August 14, 2020, GMT +8.  Afterwards, the PCS will invite the top 8 registered teams to the PCS Promotion Qualifier elimination round. Only MMR gained on the server that a team registers for will be counted for the evaluation.

The PCS team will seed the top 8 teams into a single-elimination bracket based on their total MMR accumulated through the qualifying period. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will feature a best-of-3 tournament draft format. The higher-seeded team will decide side-selection for game 1 and 3 of each match. The elimination round finals will feature a best-of-5 tournament draft format. The higher-seeded team will decide side-selection for game 1 of the finals. Afterwards, the losing team of the previous game will decide side-selection for subsequent games.

The elimination round’s winners proceed to the promotion/relegation match. The winners of the Philippine server qualifiers will face Liyab Esports in a best-of-5 tournament draft match. Meanwhile, the SAM server qualifier winners will face Resurgence with the same format. The PCS’ platforms will feature broadcasted promotion/relegation matches.

Finally, the winners of these matches will compete in the PCS 2021 season.
