The Worlds update for League of Legends patch 12.18 is here. Twelve champions will be eliminated. Miss Fortune and Hecarim, two flavors of the month selections, are being nerfed while Lee Sin is floating his way back into the meta. Here are the patch notes.

It’s time for Worlds! During the biggest League of Legends championship tournament, professional players will play the League of Legends patch 12.18, the final patch update before the World Championships.

Riot is adjusting the meta with one more set of adjustments affecting twelve champions, including the aforementioned Spirit Walker. The adjustments won’t be as significant as the last few releases, but the devs are largely focusing on the positions of Jungle and AD carry.

Patch 12.18 Major Changes

Maokai and Udyr

Since his League of Legends revamp, Maokai has been absent from the top lane and jungle, as players have opted to use the Twisted Treant bot as support instead. In League of Legends patch 12.17, that was supposed to change, although it hasn’t entirely succeeded.

The Twisted Treant now makes up to 40% of all Maokai games, which is a significant improvement, although jungle play is still behind support at 20% versus 37%. More changes are coming to support and jungle, though it’s unclear exactly what kind of middle ground Riot is looking for.

In LoL patch 12.18, Maokai is receiving more tweaks.
As Riot plays around with the recently modified Spirit Walker, Udyr will also need to make some tweaks. They want to alter his build further to prevent him from using his Wingborne Storm in the dominating AP build and make him utilize a bruiser with less tankiness.

Lee Sin and Hecarim

In addition to the Maokai and Udyr adjustments that will impact the role, the LoL patch 12.18 change list includes four additional junglers.

Worlds wouldn’t exist without Lee Sin, and Riot is ensuring that by giving the Blind Monk some buffs that will help him sustain. On the other end of the spectrum, Hecarim, Kayn, and Nocturne have all exhibited moderate dominance—particularly Hecarim.

The nerfs to Kayn and Nocturne are barely noticeable, but Hecarim’s Q damage and W sustain have been severely reduced.

As a result, the role will be targeted by half of the 12 champion changes in the last League of Legends update before Worlds, potentially substantially changing the meta just weeks before the event.

Ashe, Kalista, and Miss Fortune

Riot isn’t just interested in the role of jungle. With Sivir and Zeri running amok on the meta, AD carry has become a sensitive issue recently. These two will not be explicitly affected by the LoL patch 12.18, but three other things will.

There are no buffs for the Imperial Mandate support build; Ashe is the only one facing them, and they are marksman-specific ones for her Q. On the other side, Kalista and Miss Fortune are dealing with nerfs. The latter also significantly boosted the League of Legends patch 12.17, prompting a hotfix within hours.

Fright Night Skin Collection and World’s Azir

Fright Night skins are coming to League of Legends in patch 12.18 after winning the thematic skin poll earlier in 2022.

The six champions with gothic-themed skins—Annie (rework), Draven, Nautilus, Renata Glass, Trundle, and Urgot—each have eight chromas, and the base artwork has a lot of black and white shading. A unique color pop also distinguishes each champion.

Along with the Fright Night skins, the Worlds 2022 Azir skin is also forthcoming, continuing the tradition of the yearly Championship skins that revolve around the important competition. Sylas will soon receive a new Ashen Knight ski for those with a lot of Mythic Essence.

Patch 12.18 is set to be released on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
