League of Legends’ 12.11 patch is finally out and it’s a big one. This patch includes the first set of adjustments after patch 12.10’s durability update and hotfixes. Among the many changes included in this patch are balance updates for twenty-nine champions. Furthermore, some tank items, fighter items, mage items, and anti-healing items also received changes. That said, let’s take a look at the more notable changes in this patch. Continue reading this to know the significant changes in League of Legends patch 12.11 that could impact the meta.

The Void Empress Arrives

Firstly, Bel’Veth is arriving in Summoner’s Rift in League of Legends patch 12.11. She is primarily a jungler whose skill set has unique interactions with Rift Herald and Baron Nashor. New champions are always a welcome addition to the game because they add to its variety. As such, it will be interesting to see if Bel’Veth can shake up the meta and become competitively viable. For more information on the Void Empress, refer to our rundown that covers her lore and abilities.

Champion Changes

Next, let’s talk about the champion balance changes introduced in this patch. In League of Legends patch 12.11, a total of twenty-nine champions received balance changes. Most of the buffs and nerfs implemented are just minor adjustments to champions. However, there are some champions who received more significant balancing. In my opinion, these champions are Olaf, Senna, Tahm Kench, Taliyah, and Zeri. Let’s go over why I think the changes to these champions are more significant.

Olaf

Let’s start with Olaf. During the 12.9 patch, Olaf received a mid-scope update. Since then, Olaf has become strong both as a jungler and as a top laner. However, patch 12.10’s durability update made Olaf too strong in the top lane. His changes in patch 12.11 aim to reduce his late game durability while buffing his jungle clear speed.

Senna

Next, let’s go over Senna. Senna has been one of the strongest support champions in the game over the past few patches. She isn’t just strong during the laning phase, she also scales well into the late game. This patch, Riot nerfed the slow of Senna’s Piercing Darkness. This should make her less oppressive to lane against. However, her passive Absolution got buffed. The drop rate of her mists when she gets the last hit on minions has increased. As a result, AD Senna or fasting Senna may become viable ways to play her again this patch.

Tahm Kench

Third on our list is Tahm Kench, everyone’s favorite catfish demon. According to Riot in the patch notes, Tahm Kench is weak post-durability update. Because of this, Tahm Kench received multiple buffs to his damage, healing, and shielding. As a result, Tahm Kench may be a force to be reckoned with again, especially when paired up with Senna.

Taliyah

Taliyah is the fourth champion we feel received significant changes this patch. She also received a mid-scope update last patch 12.9 alongside Olaf. Since then, Taliyah has been a monster in the mid lane. At one point, she averaged a 53% win rate in the mid lane according to statistics website u.gg. This win rate got higher towards the higher skill brackets. In Master and above, Taliyah averaged an overwhelming 54.87% win rate.  Because of this, Taliyah received multiple nerfs this patch. Her base health and her Threaded Volley’s cooldown and damage got hit. Additionally, she can no longer cast her ultimate, Weaver’s Wall, within three seconds of dealing non-proc damage. Taliyah is still a strong champion, but she won’t be as overpowered as she used to be last patch.

Zeri

Finally, Zeri is the last champion on our list of champions to look out for. On release, Zeri was one of the most frightening carries to face. She became one of the deadliest teamfighting marksmen before she got hit by a string of nerfs. Since then, Riot has incentivized Zeri players to prioritize building crit items over bruiser items. However, she became clearly weaker compared to before. In League of Legends patch 12.11, Zeri received numerous buffs – at a cost. Zeri received many buffs to the damage she deals. However, Riot decided to cut down on her utility and mobility as a trade off. It will be interesting to see whether Zeri’s changes will push her to the forefront of competition again.

Item Changes

Now that we’re done discussing the champion changes in League of Legends patch 12.11, let’s go over the items. In this patch, anti-healing items, mage items, tank items, and fighter items received balancing changes.

Anti-Healing Items

For starters, anti-healing items got their grievous wounds effects reduced. Their other stats got increased to compensate for this change to maintain power neutrality. This should make anti-healing items less oppressive against healing, which already got nerfed in the last patch.

Mage Items

Secondly, a good number of mage items received changes in League of Legends patch 12.11. Everfrost, Liandry’s Torment, and Riftmaker have been too strong and received nerfs to lower their power levels. Meanwhile, unpopular mage mythic items like Crown of the Shattered Queen and Night Harvester received buffs. These changes should increase the level of parity among mage items and allow for more diverse builds.

Tank Items

According to Riot, many tanks felt weak after the durability update. Thus, many tank items received buffs in order to make the role more competitive. These changes range from lowering the cost of tank items to buffing the stats they provide. As a result, tanks should be more appealing to play now that their items are more cost-efficient.

Fighter Items

Lastly, many fighter items received adjustments in this patch too. Death’s Dance has been really strong, so Riot is nerfing the item’s healing. Similarly, Maw of Malmortius has been overperforming so the cooldown of its Lifeline passive was increased. On the other hand, Blade of the Ruined King, Sterak’s Gage, and Goredrinker received buffs to make them more viable.

This wraps up our rundown of the League of Legends patch 12.11 changes. Feel free to leave a comment below to let us know your thoughts regarding the new patch.
